Hi!!
I kind new with RedHat, and I was using the RedHat
7.3, and I really enjoyed the experience. The I moved
to the RH 9.0 but I didn't like the BlueCurve theme.
The problem is that I tryed several times move to the
RH default ( old ) theme.
Everytime I tryed, the system accept the choice
AFAICT, "Bluecurve" is, simply, a theme. Is it possible to
take Bluecurve and "drop it into" KDE on another distribution,
or even another operating system?
I prefer FreeBSD over Linux on my desktop, but I like the
appearance of Bluecurve better than the stock KDE "them

I was under the impession that RH actuakky *patched* KDE and Qt, hence,
a simple themechange wouldn't fully get rid of

Im not sure what exactly it is your upset about with blue curve. What I
do know is that Bluecurve is nothing more than a set of themes. To undo
the effects of blue curve simply replace the relevant theme with the one
of your choosing: window theme, icon theme, etc. What is wrong with the

I've just totally removed and reinstalled KDE on RH9 - I didn't use any
packages from Red Hat, but rather downloaded them from one of the KDE
mirrors instead. Among the benefits, I was hoping that a side-effect
would be to remove Bluecurve. I also removed all ~/.kde, etc.

Hi,
I recently removed some packages from my Red Hat 8
installation, and when I rebooted I now receive a
login screen which is not the "Red Hat 8 blue
background blue login window" screen, but one which is

Bluecurve is not Gnome-specific. It also exists under KDE. What makes RH
8.0 so special and unique at the same time is the fact, that the rpm
package "redhat-menues-xyz.rpm" sets logos and menu entried for both
worlds - KDE and Gnome.
As I am not a very experienced Gnome user, I can on
Is Bluecurve part of Gnome? Or is it an independent package? Or is Bluecirve
simply nothing more than a "theme" in gnome?

I have about 50 machines that need to look identical.
Bluecurve is nice and all, but did they really have to take out
(or at least hide well) the option of using the look-n-feel
of the KDE desktop from the previous 7.x releases?
I might be way off base here, but so far it doesn'
you can even download new themes and icons etc, from kde theme

I've probably missed something painfully obvious somewhere, but
I can't seem to find the info if it exists. I'm currently running
Redhat 7.3 with the default KDE interface supplied by Redhat on a lab
full of machines. I'd like to upgrade to Redhat 8.0, but keep the same
KDE desktop interface as

Where's the Menu Editor in RH 8 - BlueCurve ? Am I blind?
I just want to get rid of their weird menu layout. Its extremely annoying how
applications that they consider secondary go in the 'extras' or 'accessories'
folder.

I now see it, only it's called Appl

despite this, Bluecurve is great and was a good move
on RedHat's part, and they're just exersizing their

I'd prefer a true KDE environment though. I'm trying to find out if I
install the entire KDE rpm base over RH 8, if that will enable me to
start up in a true KDE environment, instead of the bluecurve.
I can sort of understand why Redhat would want to do what they did, but
ce it with kmail.
despite what some people are saying, RH has not
crippled KDE or removed any parts of KDE. it's all
there. there's no need to reinstall KDE rpms.
