Well there's Red Hat Linux Users FAQ but it's a little outdated I think.

How would I compile the kernel to support an AMD Thunderbird chip
(1.2Ghz)? Compile as i786 (P4) architecture?

Is it possible compiling the kernel could screw up the printer in some
way? I enabled parport printer support as module, was the only option I
saw. I noticed it's sending the job as if on a network, even though
it's configured as a local printer. Would network configurations in the
kernel have
Yes, the NVidia drivers from nvidia.com are closed source, as they are
using OpenGl from a 3rd party so they don't fully own the drivers. But
they do support up to the Geforce 3 and I hear they are possibly going
to be released with 7.1. And the beta quality is pretty decent.

Geforce 2 GTS works fine with me, the drivers from NVidia's website work
pretty sweet as well too.

I know kernel 2.4.x has better USB support. RH7 ships with 2.2.x so you
might want to consider a kernel upgrade. I don't know anything
specifically about the Alcatel USB modems. But I know I switched mine
out for a regular external one that requires an ethernet card. I'm
prety sure if you trie
Ok, this is the output I get when restarting the printer deamon:
Starting lpd: Warning-'if' filter '/var/spool/lpd/filter does not have
executive perms.
Any ideas?
I've tried both
chmod -x filter and chmod 755 filter, both to no avail.
Possible a bug in 2.4.3? (What I'm running)

Mikkel,
I flushed firewall rules and still get the same error message. Maybe it
has something to do with xinetd.
Still clueless,

Hello,
I just upgraded to kernel 2.4.3 and I can't get the printer to work for
the life of me!
It worked fine under 2.4.2 and 2.2.x.
The message I get when attempting to print is:

Hello,
I'm considering upgrading my cpu/motherboard/memory. If I compiled the
kernel on the old system and install the new hardware will I have to
recompile or will I be able to boot up the system at all?
The only class I'm changing is the memory...from 100mhz bus to 133mhz
bus. If I do this wi
Yeah the NVIDIA drivers work great and are pretty easy to install, and
if I'm not mistaken they support up to the GeForce 3 but are not open
source as some of the OpenGL license they use is not open source (i.e.
from another company).
