Hi, greetings.
May I ask if it is possible to use Compuserve or AOL as ISP under Linux?
I mean registering with their service but not use their
windows program. Instead connecting to their access phone number
through ppp.
thanks a lot

I'm debugging a C/C++ program under linux (glibc).
When it's time to run gethostbyname("localhost") (whatever the
argument), it says
OUCH: nested memory code, to 1 levels.
Program terminated with signal SIGKILL, Killed.
Any clues?
thanks

I'm building linux kernel 2.1.106 on my linux box. I'm having
the following question:
Originally I was using linux kernel 2.1.99 and it can't
automatically recognize my serial port /dev/ttyS1(it's a
gateway fax/modem), so I issued the following command
/bin/setserial /dev/ttyS1 irq 3 spd_vhi aut
It's quite annoying that I can't run startx twice. I mean
starting xwindow (through startx, WM is fvwm or enlightenment,
using XFree86), then quitting Xfree86, after this I have to reboot
to run startx again, otherwise the system is locked and even
ctrl-alt-del not working.

I just build and install gcc-2.8.1
Seems I can't use it to build shared library.
A configure script in a package reports
-fPIC test failed and disables shared/dynamic.
Anyone knows the possible reasons?
Originally I used gcc-2.7.2.3 and everything was
fine.
Thanks

It's not a good idea to have many different mailing lists.
For example, we have redhat list and hurricane list. Even I
am only interested in hurricane, but I'd better subscribe to
both lists since they are both informational in some ways.
How about only one ma

The possible reason is that gs can't load your new library in
XFree86 3.3.2
Try run gs directly from command line to see what happens.
If it's the library reason, one approach is to restore your
old library somewhere and use LD_LIBRARY_PATH to load
the old library when runnung gs. It can be done t
libc5 is a kind of mistake which every free developed OS like
linux was hard to avoid. I don't think backward compatibility
is very important for this kind of mistake and this kind
of OS. Otherwise what we will get is just another UNIX or
Windows.

I just upgrade XFree86 from 3.3.1 to 3.3.2
This time I build XFree86 using glibc and Threads option.

can not be loaded though I have newer version there.
