and the ability to stamp your own taste on your system.

There has been a fair bit of discussion on this list about different
problems with some graphics cards and, in particular, SiS cards. A visit
to www.xfree86.org this afternoon paid huge dividends for me.

If I run X windows (either GNOME or KDE) it works well at 800 x 600 res.
However, 1024 x 768 is painful. It redraws the screen very slowly. For
instance, if you scroll down a web page or a page of text or even down
the file manager, you can see the page being redrwan several times. When
