Does anyone know why my stock RedHat 9 system seems to probe
sound-slot-1 when I only have sound-slot-0 defined in my modules.conf?
And what is calling it? I made 'alias sound-slot-1 sound-slot-0' and it

Hello,
the docs say, I have to insert a line DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE", or XDM or
GDM in /etc/sysconfig/desktop.
But it has no effect. It always starts the GDM.
I am using redhat 9.
My /etc/sysconfig/desktop looks like:
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"
Just those two lines.
Click on the green dot on the screen with the "new" button after you
have created the filter.
When it is a green checkmark, it is activated.

Has anyone had any problems building the beta kernel?
I have no problems with it until I make the modules install. I am
getting unresolved symbols in every module. Is this due to an older
utitlity released by RedHat or is something just messed up in the kernel
source?

You are not alone.
I sent RedHat a message addressing the issue about how they are
releasing older packages with their set of security fixes rather than
helping patch the program's CVS so that ALL of the newer versions of the
program will be patched. I find that RedHat is in essence pulling a

Generally you do the following to build your kernel. (As defined in README)
make mrproper
make xconfig

make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
Doing the above will not give you a module-info file. I never found an
