I've found that AMANDA is only good for backing up data on smb shares, I
don't think you would want to use it to try a bare metal recovery of a
windows machine.
I used to backup some smb shares with it and I remember that some files
never got backed up cleanly.

Thanks to both of you for responding. The empty quotes works best for
what I wanted to do (which I should have been clearer on in the first
place). I wanted to make the first choice in a menu the "default", ie,
just hit , and the empty quotes allow me to do that:
