It shouldn't AFAIU. cwm sets _NET_SUPPORTING_WM_CHECK since some time,
which is a Window-type property, which points to a window
for the records:
0) it's a problem of non-reparenting WMs, in my case cwm

2) install x11/wmname
3a) run ``wmname LG3D'' before java apps OR
3b) prepend your window manager in .xinitrc with something like:
