Upgrading to 4.3.10, Make, make test and make install work with no errors.
Using same configure options I used to install 4.3.8:
./configure --prefix=/usr --with-apx=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs
--libdir=/usr/lib/php4 --datadir=/usr/share/php
--with-sybase-ct=/usr/local/freetds
