Hi The problem was it was not loading the driver for the ethernet card. I downloaded the latest driver from Intel - version 3.8.4 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/15817 Did a make install and then rebooted. That fixed it. The card was recognised and lsmod shows e1000e loaded Thanks N
