Yes, Ubuntu 14.04 was my previous version, and I did not have this
booting problem.
Unfortunately I cannot test an upstream kernel as I am using the most
recent BitCurator 1.8.0 release
(https://confluence.educopia.org/display/BC), which does not package a
later kernel.

At boot I consistently get the error message:
"INFO: task systemd-udevd:179 blocked for more than 120 seconds."
This is under 16.04 on a Dell Optiplex 9020. See the attached image for
a full call trace when booting in Recovery Mode.
