further ahead.
To clarify I run my system on solar power - battery/inverter, it's much
cleaner than the grid around here, and cheaper.
The computer is left turned on all the time but the monitors (2) are turned
off to save powe

Just updating this bug, since I'm running into it on my UX302LG. It
looks like it should be fixed in future kernel releases, so it'd be
useful to know if the patches mentioned here are actually in the next
Ubuntu release (14.10):

the "fail from resume" happened intermittently, if ntp was running then

"nomodeset" from my boot options, has allowed me to get the intel driver
working, like others have reported:

I'm seeing this issue on a fresh 14.04 install. However, unlike 13.10,
using "nomodeset" and the generic SVGA X drivers seem to work enough to
start the display at its native resolution.
As you can see, the Intel driver isn't being loaded at all on my
ux302lg:

It's not reproducible in Saucy, and I haven't tried Trusty. Sorry, I'll
try Trusty on this machine when it's released, but not before.

After upgrading to Kubuntu Saucy with kernel 3.11.0-12 the system was
OK, but after upgrading to kernel 3.11.0-13 I started experiencing the
problem.
After sleeping the system overnight, it would partially wake up but then
be unresponsive. The previous time I had the problem
I have the same motherboard as the OP and an Nvidia graphics card with
the proprietary driver.
I didn't experience the problem after upgrading Kubuntu from 13.04 to
13.10 with 3.11.0-12. After upgrading to 3.11.0-13 a few days ago,

Since I upgraded to Saucy my RT3290 wifi disconnects after a while and,
cannot reconnect. Networks are visible but connecting fails.
