It looks to me (a non-kernel expert) like the driver for the keyboard
and trackpad can't read or write to the device due to the IOMMU not
being set up to allow those reads/writes (e.g.):

Confirming the same behavior on my MacBookPro14,1:
* 6.14.0-15-generic boots but built-in keyboard and trackpad are dead
* 6.12.0-rc2 does not boot
* 6.12.0-rc3 does not boot (see attached video; looks like a kernel oops in
intel_lpss_pci)
* 6.11 boots with working built-in keyboard and track

After a lot of trial and error, I was able to build linux-next and
disable secure boot so I could run the kernel.
I confirmed my copy of linux-next already included the referenced patch.

Jay Flory, your information was the key! I removed the -116 kernel and
reinstalled it, and the graphics are fine now. It looks like this was
indeed due to a timing problem between when my system got the gcc update
and the kernel update.
It appears that I'll have to reinstall virtualbox as well.
Looking at apt logs, it appears my system got a gcc update the day AFTER
the kernel was pushed out. I'll try reinstalling the kernel and see if
that makes a difference.

default one for 14.04, I do not have a custom version, yet I still have
this problem. Do you know what version of gcc I should install?

Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt

This rescue mode is a permanent PITA for me. I've been trying to do lowlevel
disk recovery only to have something signal to the systemd to go multiuser.
Alternative keystrokes are sent to
1. the recovery root level shell
2. the systemd menu.
I've worked around this when needed by booting a

I seem to have this issue too, but related to a different device.
Running 16.04 with 4.4.0-31-generic. New (used) machine so very
concering. It ran fine for about an hour then spontaneously started

Since so few others have reported this issue, I'm guessing that I must
be doing something wrong. Would anyone care to volunteer a guess as to
what that might be? I'm not afraid of the CLI but my Linux Guru cap got
lost at the dry cleaners.
