apparently the problem is the lack the xorg-video-abi-24 in the xserver-xorg-core package as it was pointed out as the grep command shows, only the video-abi-25 is provided in ubuntu 22 , but in order to install cuda 10.2 (or older), the version 24 is needed. $ apt-cache show xserver-xorg-core
