Terry,
We've had a lot of discussion over this bug. It does not have
a reliable reproducer, and I have not yet received any acks
on testing of the above.
Our thinking was that it was still better to patch it since
it has been seen by the mainline driver as well and we'd like
to avoid a re-occur
Bug still occurs on my systems as well, all up-to-date using the standard
upgrade channels on 18.10.
When the mouse input isn't slow, the mouse input skips around a bit

I had a look at my Updates history in Ubuntu Software Centre for the
last couple of weeks to see if I could spot any "likely culprits", and I
see that on the 18th February the 'dkms' package got bumped from
2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.9 to 2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.10 and the 'shim-

I'm also seeing the same problem on a Dell XPS 13 9343 - Wifi is
suddenly non-functional, whereas it'd otherwise been working fine for
many years (I'm unsure exactly when the problem started, as I mostly use
my laptop via wired ethernet, but it's definitely broken within the last
couple of weeks).
I see, thanks for the info.
I'll report my findings so far here, in case it turns out useful to some
future person landing on this bug later:

This bug is present on an Asus FX504G. It does not matter if one is
running Synaptics or libinput. The error message will eventually cause
the touchpad to stop operating completely. It will start working again
after a period of time. However, to have it operate again immediately, I
have to type: rm
