Its not affecting the functionality of your system is it? To only
package the ucm files for arm would make the packaging somewhat more
complex, and diverge us even more from Debian.
If you are space constrained, deleting these files should not be a
problem.

I was able to start both kernels with 12.04. I could also start todays
daily image (20140318) from a live-usb. So I guess it's resolved for
now. I'll check out images reguraly until release in case it would break

I can confirm that loading the current mainline kernel does NOT fix the
issue. I am running 3.14.0-031400rc7-generic with no improvement. If
anything the touch pad is more erratic.

Ok a more refined reproducer shows that this is an issue triggered by
different permissions on the various layers. Although the directory is
reported correctly the permissions for each layer are used on that layer
to control who can actually see the contents of the directory. If you
