It is definitly related to Plasma Search plugins. I have set them to default
(which is nearly everything is enabled) and the issue occurs. Can you try to
enable all plugins and test again?

I am using Breeze GTK. The issue goes away when I change something like 'force
dpi value' in the general font settings, hit apply and change it back to the
defaults afterwards.

Gstreamer. I have figured out that it's related to subtitles. Without subtitles

I would like to try but I cannot get it to work. If I see it correctly, it
should be provided by the vlc package on Fedora:
