So after plasma 6.2, it went away for a while, and then came back. I've noticed
some patterns: it tends to happen more when using the linux-zen kernel rather
then the linux-lts kernel.

I've discovered that trying to open an appimage in this broken state freezes

sounds like your systemd may be having trouble.
run
`sudo systemctl log-level debug`
then run
`journalctl -f > /tmp/journallog`
then try to start something
then attach the file /tmp/journallog to this bug rep
