The flatpak version does not solve this issue for me.
Maybe it *seems* to fix it, because the default for "low resource mode" is off.

I just checked the flatpak of Gwenview 20.12.0. It does indeed solve the issue
and even pictures taken with my Canon PowerShot A620 do show as proper
thumbnails.
