Daniel - thanks for your tip. I was busy finding out the same thing at the same time you posted. I got there in the end. Francisco - thank you for your suggestion, this indeed proved to be the problem. I just created a symlink in /usr/lib : libSM.so -> libSM.so.6.0 and everything was happy again
