I was attempting to upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10 when this error
appeared. For a while it haulted the upgrade, but I managed to get it
cleared up, likely caused by a dependency error. Two things to note; I

I don't this this is specific to just LightDM. I tried installing KDM to
see if it too would lock up occasionally, and it does. It's very strange
because no keyboard input is recognized, not even ctrl+alt+f does
anything. Next time I'll give it a while to see if it snaps out of it.

when I login, teh screen goes blank for a moment, then right back to the login.
I have reason to believe a recent update made this happen. From what I've been

/etc/X11/default-display-manager file contains:

After upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10, 11.04, then 11.10, I started
