I'm wondering if all these bugs about "Display Power Save only blanks,
but does not turn off", reported here and elsewhere, aren't actually
caused by something other than Mutter. Something that is at a lower
level.

Yeah I had same problem just doing routine apt upgrade on my 25.04
laptop. Fixed with:

I happened to try another computer (HP Laptop 17-cn0xxx [i5-1135G7])
using a Plucky live image. It also does not show the brightness control
in the menu. This computer's keyboard does have brightness keys and
after pressing one of them the brightness control appears in the menu.

This computer does not show the brightness control in the GNOME system
menu (upper right). This the case in the up-to-date Plucky install and
when booted to the latest Plucky live image.
It does show up when I boot to a 24.10 live image. And I

The module loads fine in the Firefox snap.
I ran the command:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opensc-pkcs11.so
The smartcard works if I launch chromium with:
