Nvidia controls are not expected to work if the proprietary Nvidia
driver is not installed.
I suggest just uninstalling the Nvidia driver and leaving it that way.

If you enable fractional scaling, for example 125%, and play video in
fullscreen mode (youtube, vlc, gnome videos), application will constantly
resize. This makes fullscreen mode unsuable

I'm changed graphics driver to OpenSource and it resolved this problem
for me. So it's related to Nvidia proprietary driver.

Yes the space could be relevant, search for "ignorespace" in bash's
manual.
Also, it's the shell (bash) handling the history, not the terminal.

Same issue here on a Dell Inspiron 13-7378 (ALC3253).
Audio was working fine on the previous kernel (4.15.0-96-lowlatency) and
