Eventually, I got an upgrade notification (it listed a bunch of packages
which were scheduled to be updated). I assume whatever process was doing
silent updates in the background grabbed the lock, and once I closed the
dialog software centre was able to install packages.

Since my new fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 I can't have a good
experience.
Use a simple gEdit is impossible because the text area is not showed in
a white background but "cloning" everything that were in that screen
position curiously it not happen with Leafpad editor. But oc
@Alberto, with prime-select intel as well as with bbswitch off, powertop
shows the nvidia tunable as "good". Still, the battery's discharge rate
on idle remains pretty high (around 20W) on prime-select intel. With
bbswitch off, it drops to 13W or thereabouts. Do you need any more
information ?

I had a random urge to try out Wayland again. This issue does not arise
in Wayland. Apps that were affected under X11 are taking input focus
quite happily when launched from shell in Wayland.

approx. 1 week in Dingo : Dropbox, Radio-tray NG, gEncFS Manager
indicators are no more visible in the top bar, programs are still

My application is asking Totem (video player) various data via (MPRIS2)
DBus-interface.
When asking "DesktopEntry", totem return value "totem" (meaning totem.desktop).
That is probably wrong.
Ubuntu 19.10 has no "totem.desktop" file.

In my instance (Xubuntu 18.10 with nvidia 415 from the graphics drivers
PPA) I was able to fix the lock screen resolution by using the
following:
Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"

My system has /usr/lib/nvidia

mentioned above it is not only the lock screen, but the boot splash
screens as well.

Removing "acpi_os_name=Linux acpi_osi=" from /etc/default/grub doesn't
fix this problem.
