I have this problem with an iPhone.
When connecting my iPhone via USB for the first time after boot,

If I set "muhenkan"key only to cycle forward to next keyboard layout it will
not change the layout (according to the icon) and the keyboard layout stays the
same. If I set "muhenkan" + shift key to cycle forward it will change both
the icon and the keyboard layout.

Alt+Shift as the layout switch, and all key combinations
Alt+Shift+ now work fine.

@Alberto: The stock 319.60 from Saucy nvidia-319-updates. While power
users can patch, I think we need a repository update for everyone else.
319.72 includes the 3.11 fix, and it's in Debian unstable:

Actually, installing cheese 3.10 from GNOME 3 ppa solves this. So this
is going to be fixed whne cheese 3.10 hits ubuntu (I am not sure if that
is going to be 14.04 or 14.10).

If this bug is marked as confirmed for lxdm, then it must also be marked
as such for lightdm as same workaround is applicable for both of them in
case of a problem as seen in #33 - which was my case BTW.
Of course it depends on which display manager is used as only one can be

my story:
I use gdm + gnome and upgraded via upgrade manager from 12.10 => 13.04 and also
from 13.04 => 13.10.
It worked for some weeks until a week ago. (GDM screen started but no
loginwindow)
Switching to terminal (CTRL+ALT+F1) worked.
After a long search I found out that switching from gdm
