I am trying to install the tulip.o modules for my network cards. If I try
depmod -a now I get a error which returns Unresolved symbols
/lib/modules/2.2.18pre21/net/tulip.o
Any ideas as to what I screwed up now? I just installed debian this week.

recently recompiled my kernel because the
makefile wouldn't run without the kernel having been

my old kernel would help. Also, none of the modules
made after "make modules; make install" worked -- they

I've compiled a brend new kernel.
When I boot with this kernel, those lines are printed on the screen :
...
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.17/misc/isdnloop.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.2.17/misc/ixj.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2
I had the same problem. It was solved by updating modutils from testing.

Another option is to edit the kernel toplevel Makefile. It's probably
/usr/src/linux/Makefile .
Four lines down, there an EXTRAVERSION variable that
Thanks, that solved the problem.

Hello list,
i have running stabel. I installed kernel-headers-2.2.17,
kernel-source-2.2.17 and kernel-package. Then i made my own
kernel ( make dep clean bzImage; make modules; make modules_install)
After that i copied System.map to /boot/System.map-2.2.17 and

Dear all!
I've downloaded the 2.4.0 test 9 sources, and have configured
the compile options using make menuconfig, then a
make-kpkg clean, followed by make-kpkg --revision=custom_0.1 kernel_image
and then dpkg -i kernel-image...
However, when dpkg is installing, I get an unresolved symbo

I just upgraded a machine from unstable potato to stable potato
and among other things, I recompiled the PCMCIA modules provided
by pcmcia-source.
Now I get unresolved symbols in epic_cb.o when doing a 'depmod
-a'. This is merely a cosmetic issue since I don't use this
