I just re-installed Debian, and in the process of trying to get sound
working, I:
- installed kernel-image-2.2.18-ide
- rebooted and verified that that was in fact the version I was using
- installed alsa-modules-2.2.18-ide

But every time I run depmod (starting with the installation script), I get
errors of the form:

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /usr/lib/alsa-modules/2.2.18-ide/0.5/snd.o

for every single module in the package. Is this an error in the version
compiled for the package, or do I need to run something else to work out the
dependencies, or...?

I think I had this problem when I was upgrading my old installation as well,
so I had moved back down to the 2.2.17-ide kernel image and alsa modules,
which worked fine. But alsa-modules-2.2.17-ide is no longer available...

(By the way, I need the *-ide kernels because I'm using an HPT370 UDMA
controller.)

Any help would be appreciated...thanks,

Jeremy
