Try:
export EDITOR=vi
stty rows 24
That should fix it. You can add this to your ".bash_profile" so it
will take effect whenever you log in.

OK, I am a dummy, wiht that despensed with
I just put up debian 1.3.1, on a host that I had been running slackware.
All is fine, except when I telnet to that host and try to use vi, my
telnet client (windowz95) seems to have formating problems (not evident with
the slakware installation)
