just remove the "fixed" font entry in your /etc/X11/XF86Config
explicitly define your fonts listed in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/
remove unix/:-1 if you are not running xfs ( font server )
try running
X -probe

For no reason that I can fathom, this morning I turned on the PC, and tried
to 'startx'.
It gave me an error -
"Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'"
can someone help me with this? It's a work machine so I need it working.
