This weekend, I installed sarge from a distribution CD
and the network on to a new old system which had previously never
had Linux. The kernel was 2.4.27-2 and I needed to upgrade that
to 2.6.5 which is what I run on a couple of other Linux boxes.
This 2.6.5 kernel has a number of

So, following up on my own post: I now know a little better what I
don't know, if that makes sense.
I've apt-gotten the source for my stock kernel image (2.4.20).
I've apt-gotten the kernel modules for the pcmcia-cs; i don't know
where the samba kernel modules hang out.
I've done a make-menucon

hey all,
i'm trying to set up samba to interface with my windoze network at
work. i've apt-gotten samba, smbfs, and all the things the myriad
howtwos i've found have deemed necessary, but i can't figure out how
to put smbfs as a module into my kernel.
spycellar:~# modprobe -k smbfs

hi there,
I just recently downloaded kernel 2.0.30 and have been having problems with
modules. I've run make config and answered yes to ne2000 support, ppp and
parallel printer. then I compiled it and installed on a floppy without a
hitch. then I ran make modules and then make modules_inst
