This is far from urgent ofcourse, but.. well it would be interesting
to hear what's available for this, andwhat could be learned from tools

Can't you just "make oldconfig" then "make menuconfig" over top of it?
You'd have the old stuff, and could then toggle in new stuff (not to

I'd like to suggest somewhere that the standard Debian kernel images
be compiled with CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ, especially since this option can
be turned on and off via sysctl and is therefore pretty harmless to
include. If this were an issue about an ordinary package, I'd just
file it as a wishlist b

apt-get install kernel-source-2.4.18. Back up your

The config file is installed along with the kernel image in /boot.

Hi,
does anybody know where I can find the kernel configuration for the
debian kernels (the 2.4.18-smp to be exact)? I have to recompile the
kernelafter changing a few settings and would like to start with the
settings in the default kernel (since I know that they are working,
except that

I have a kernel that is compiled without this option and one that is
complied with it.
When installing and running update-modules for the kernel that does
have this option I get for each of the modules that

Yep. It works for me. Thanks.
But, what I mean is, let say I lost my /boot/config-2.x.y file, how do

Hi,
Is there any way to know that, for examples, my kernel-images have quota
support enabled? In this case, consider I am using kernel-images from .deb,
not compile it myself. Of course many configuration I need to know beside
quota support.

The immediate problem I am trying to address is the following error reported
in /var/log/messages:
PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device 40, VID=1095, DID=0643
I have downloaded and expanded my kernel source code (2.2.12), which did
include the desired driver source:
