Hi all,
Tried to upgrade Enlightenment from 0.14 to 0.16 as seen below. I can't
figure out the unknown option about --assert-long-filenames as it's not in
the dpkg --help or in the man files of dpkg. Do I have an outdated dpkg
or anything else amiss?
Thanks,

Thanks for the hint. I was unaware of the --purge option in dpkg. It seems
like thats all that needed to be done. There were files in /etc/rc* and I
even deleted them but that was not helping. --purge worked!

if the init.d script is trying to stop it, just do this:
rm /etc/init.d/icecast
touch /etc/init.d/icecast
chmod +x /etc/init.d/icecast
this will just make a dummy file that will satisfy dpkg so you can --purge
it and try reinstalling it.

Ian, Thanks for your help. I have the

script is probably looking for *.el to byte compile it for emacs20.
Unless I hear otherwise, my next step will be to purge both emacs19

I am attempting to replace emacs-19.34 with emacs-20.3 on a Slink
system with the following steps:
1) Remove emacs19: dpkg -r emacs19

I was able to get postgresql 6.5-3 working running through the install twice as
Oliver describes. Once it was complete psql worked as it did
before.

Is the postmaster running? Can you use psql to connect to a database,
say template1? If those work, I would think the script will work. I
just upgraded the same thing and it worked fine. Did you just change to
the 6.5 series postgres? If so, you'll have to run pgdump on your old
databases before yo
