MORE... Further to my previous message. I saw the "obvious" solution, downloaded the glibc.2.1.3 deb file, and used dpkg-deb -x package directory to extract its contents. This has given me the libraries i neded, however it seems that I also need a file libc_nonshared.a Is this a special generat

I am trying to install Oracle 8.1 on my Debian system. There is a glitch documented on the Oracle site explaining that Oracle requires glibc version 2.1.3, and will fail with version 2.2. It describes how to overcome this problem, using a "compat-glibc RPM". This uses :- libc-2.1.3.so libpthread.
