Tried that among other things. Got me half way there with KDE3.1.* but still
crashed on certain operations. In 3.2.*, Kmail will always crash.

so where is the diffrence bettween the packages from kde.org and
the ones from the unstable tree?

Is there anyway to do this for Sarge as well?

Presently Debian Woody ships with KDE 2.2.2. I would like to upgrade it to KDE
3.1, which I believe is available in the unstable Debian. There must be a way
I can get at it with apt-get but at this stage of my experience I don't know
how this is done.
Thank you,
Bill.

I could use some pointers; I've gone back a few months in the mailing list
archives, and just cannot find an answer to this.
I'm a debian newbie, having been running Mandrake for the past year. I just
got a second computer to use for debian, figuring I'd work out all the kinks

I can then successfully run up an xterm
export DISPLAY='mymachine':0.0
xterm
and run kde applications
konqueror
however I want to be able to get the remote desktop in a single kde frame.
Does anyone know how to
Try creating an .xsession file in your home directory containing this line:
exec /usr/bin/kde2

I recently installed Debian potato and apt-getted helix-gnome.
Everything was working fine.
Since I heard about KDE 2.1, and I prefer to use KDE, I did:
apt-get install kdebase task-kde
from
deb http://kde.tdyc.com potato main crypto optional qt1apps
The install worked fine, but now when I ty

Yes! Of course!
You can use apt-get to do that...
just put this line in your sources.list file:
deb http://snowcrash.tdyc.com/debian slink rkrusty

Well, thought I'd put this up for anyone else running through what I had to go
through to get my KDE running.
I compiled my KDE, and it didn't create any start up files. The docs said to
run startx and then startkde, but I wanted everything up when I booted my
system up. So, how did I do it?
PS
Given that KDE is no longer available from the debian ftp archive, where
should one go to get good packages for hamm/slink? The packages on
ftp.kde.org seem to be for bo, which presumably means libc5.
