I downloaded and installed the latest Debian CD image
(http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/8.3.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-8.3.0-amd64-CD-1.iso)
Installing to bare metal enables the components main contrib and non-free.
Installing to a virtualbox virtual machine only enables the main component, not
c
Yes, it can.
So can apt and synaptic.
These tools rely on the /etc/apt/sources.list file to point them to
servers where they can download the software you want.
Here's an example of an entry in sources.list:
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian wheezy main
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/deb
Am 07. Mai, 2014 schwätzte Charles Blair so:
moin moin Charles,
all of the apt tools, including aptitude, depend on what sources you have
added.
man sources.list
There are certainly good web pages as well, but the manpage has an example
that includes contrib and non-free.
ciao,
der.hans
I'm sorry, I don't see anything in the documentation about this.
If aptitude cannot be used, what am I supposed to do?

contrib or non free catagory in the official repository.

There are unofficial CD-images of various non-free stuff for potato
available from
ftp://ftp.fsn.hu/pub/CDR
Hello all !
is it possible to build a fourth CD, containing non free debian
packages in addition to the 3 official potato CDs in a format suitable to
dselect, of course.
I guess the answer is yes, but how to do that ?
Thanks
D.
