that the emails I've received are recognized as viruses by clamscan's online
checker.

Did you download this from lxdoom.linuxgames.com? If so, I suspect some
dependency is broken. lxdoom is in Debian -- "apt-get install lxdoom",

I have llxdoom installed succesfully. I use esound not OSS though
(I've had troubles with OSS in the past too, I would not recommend
anybody to use it, really).

I recently got my sound card working and decided that
playing DOOM would be a good test for it.
Unfortunately after installing DOOM i got the
following errors:

This is all unneccesary. The doom source code has been released, doom would
be in debian but for a minor licence problem. Get libc6 .debs of it at
http://kitenet.net/programs/debs.cgi#doom

I just upgraded to HAMM, and would like to verify that my DOOM problems
are expected and that my solution is the right one.
HAMM seems to come only with X-doom (linuxxdoom). It seems to work OK
but I have to start an 8-bit XServer (I have an ATI Mach64 Graphics Pro
Turbo). I don't have a 32
I assume you're using the "old" doom floating aroung the net, rather than
the debian packaged version from hamm... in that case, what I believe you
need is the aout-svgalib package (available in bo)
this is because that version of doom was compiled a *long* time ago.
