Clean shutdown directly from gnome2 ?

I noticed that when you start a gnome session as root, the logout dialog box allows you to shutdown the computer. This is convenient because you don't have to restart gdm to shutdown. Now I wonder what need to be done to allow a normal user to have this shutdown option in the logout dialog box. I

Mildy suprised someone hasn't already mentioned this. There is a program called SUDO, which has a debian package. It allows selected users to run selected programs as root, without them having to su to root. It's really easy to use. I use it on my laptop, both to shut it down, and run APM to susp

Is there a way to do a clean shutdown without becoming root? Ctrl+Alt+Del works. If you want to restrict normal users from doing CAD, then put the allowed users in /etc/shutdown.allow. Of course, over the network, this doesn't work. You could use the sudo or super packages, though.
