I have `deb file:/var/cache/apt/archives unstable main contrib non-free' in sources.list, and all the .deb files I wanted in /var/cache/apt/archives (not in directories under that for text, utils, etc; all in one dir). It works ok, and in that directory I also have the subdirs dists/unstable/main
