hi,
I get the above message on a tty
(VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for kswapd)
when there is much load on a debian 2.2 system.
What exactly does it mean ? (not enough swap-space ?)
Is there a way to avoid this ?
thanks,

Run "uname -r".

Hello,
I have a few questions:
1) Has anyone out there managed to fix the kernel VM problem by
upgrading to the 2.4 kernel?

Hi everybody,
We see strange messages in the kernel log, the syslog, and the
xconsole. They read
Oct 11 11:26:18 wetap50 kernel: VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for
kswapd...
This happens on several machines, all of which are running potato with a
2.2.17pre6 from the debian kernel source

this is a known problem of linux 2.2.16 and some linux 2.2.17pre's.
update to linux 2.2.17 (or 2.2.18pre, if you want) and this
problem should be solved.
Hi All!
Another newbie question
I am getting these messages often in a fresh installed debian system.
