I am trying to get apt-get to work through a SOCKS v5 server, but so
far, it doesn't seem to like Dante's socksify.
I heard that Dante is broken with respect to blocking, but I don't know
about how to get any alternatives to work. Does anybody know how to
accomplish this? Thankyou.

Is it possible to use dselect & friends via SOCKS? My machines are on
an intranet and installing the base system (via floppies) is fine, but
the ability to add other packages is eluding me.
If this isn't possible w/ Debian, do you know if any other distros
support it?

the rftp that comes with socks does not support pasv transfers. I just
installed ncftp, configured it for pasv and things seem to

Someone recently posted a question about how they could use the
ftp access method for dselect (dpkg-ftp) across a SOCKS 4.x firewall.
I've wanted to do this for quite a while myself, and it seemed to me
the shorted path would be to first create a perl package called
'RSocket'
run xmaple.

of libXt.so.3 and libX11.so.3?)
