Mike, If you're not currently using kernel-source and don't really have a need for it (the binary kernel satisfies your needs) then don't bother installing it. This way, you don't need to use alsa-source. You can just you kernel-2.4.16 (or whatever) and the matching alsa-modules-2.4.16 (matching
