I've the same card running sid and that happened to me too a while ago. I don't use the module, it's compiled into a custom kernel. Then I installed the emu-tools (I've got them from creative's site), but didn't really understand what's that about. I tried out a couple of commands with different arguments, and all of the sudden it worked, much better than before. Too bad, I've no idea what I did then, so if it happens again, I'll have to guess.
