Hi Gary,
I couldn't configure my isdn ( and not yet), so I builded
an isdn-router and now all goes like a charm.
No more troubles with any distribution :-)

Are you using pppd or ipppd? What version? Have you read in the

My card is type 18 and I need not do anything except "type=18" entry

You don't have to edit any file manually.
Just try conf-isdn-account. It's an easy menubased
configuration tool for ISP, call in and call out configurations.
It's all GPL, so your completely free to use and modify it.

/usr/share/doc/isdnutils/HOWTO.isdnutils.gz.
It's really easy, just let isdnconfig create the template config files
for you end configure them.

In any case, ISDN usually works with ipppd (as opposed to pppd, note the i).
For that you have to install the isdnutils package.

Thanks for the hint, he doesn't complain about a missing pap-secrets any
more, although he says 'unknown comman in ipppd.ippp0: -> name <-'.
But know i have the next problem: i get the message that
"isdn_ppp_bind: Can't find a (free) connection to the ipppd daemon" .
How could i fix this? Thanks f
in /etc/isdn/ipppd.ippp0
in Section AUTHENTICATION
is a variable called "name"
the name given there has to be equal to the name given in
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets or /etc/ppp/chap-secrets

Hi Shaul,
first of all: thanks for your continuing help.

on my system a grep ISDN /boot/config-2.2.17 shows:
CONFIG_ISDN=m
CONFIG_ISDN_PPP=y
CONFIG_ISDN_PPP_VJ=y
CONFIG_ISDN_MPP=y
CONFIG_ISDN_AUDIO=y
CONFIG_ISDN_TTY_FAX=y
CONFIG_ISDN

Hi,

I did not compile a new kernel at all. I used the CD-Distribution from
Linuxland. The Debian Linux Guide refers to this (and it is distributed
with the CD-Set) so it should not be necessary to compile a kernel,
should it?

it does ;-)

I am using this card in my SySE Linux (this message is sent via the
card) and YAST2 detected it on the first try.

Got the same error with Potato install.
Have not managed to configure my Isdn card yet.
One major problem I see with linux is that you can't install only the boot
diskettes
for a distribution and then use network through your ISDN card to
install/upgrade
the rest of the distribution

i don't know, wether the SB Live is supported by Linux 2.0.36.

ippd uses the same files for authentification as pppd for modem-connections:
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets
/etc/ppp/chap-secrets
(ppp-Howto, /usr/share/doc/ppp/FAQ.gz)
for pap-authentification is it:
username * very_secret
for chap-authentification:
client (username) server (providername) very_secre

Is it async PPP or sync PPP?
For sync PPP I believe but not sure that it takes a pointer from ipppd command
line or from /etc/isdn/ipppd.ippp0 and uses either /etc/ppp/pp-secrets or
/etc/ppp/chap-sec
If it has RS232 then you don't need ISDN4Linux as that package is for cards
which
don't look like a modem. If it's RS232 then it probably acts like a modem
(accepts AT
commands, etc.) and can be configured much like a modem. You need more info
about the
modem itself. Looking at its command refer
Is there the potential for a winmodem-style ISDN adapter?
I mean, an internal PC device that looks like a modem/ISDN adapter, but
uses a special windows driver to do its processing... is it feasable?

I don't think so. I had an external dynalink ISDN modem for some time
but I just used wvdial
thanx, think that will work...
are there any restrictions with my gmasqdialer, e.g. do i have to reconfig
it to?
