I tried that and it seemed to work. When I ran 'grub-install /dev/hda5' it reported 'no errors' and seemed to execute successfully. However, upon reboot, I am back to XP bootup. Is there another step that I need to include? Steps so far: 1. Boot up with live CD (Knoppix) 2. Activate shell and go

/dev/hda1 seems to be an NTFS filesystem (at least that's what fdisk says). I'm not sure about this, but may it have to be a Linux filesystem (e.g. ext3) in order for grub to work with it. I may be wrong about this, so take it with a grain of salt. Also, it seems that all of your hard drives, (hda

Your bios definitely supports it, as otherwise you couldn't be able to boot Debain. You mentioned it's installed after tyhe 8GB point, so you should be safe. A pretty good alternative I use (DOS/W98/OS2/Debian) is BootMagic from PowerQuest. With BootMagic you can (amoung other things) specify w
