command works when I run it as root. But the KDE Sound Server is
silent when I hit the "Test sound" button in the Control Center.
The sound devices, such as /dev/dsp, are permissioned as follows:

I need to edit the system volume but when I go into sounds in the control
system, I don't see anything that pertains to volume. It states something

KDE doesn't initialize it's sound module when I start it up. I have sound
configured in the kernel (2.4.0) using the Ensonic 1371 sound card settings.
When I check the 'info' KDE isn't recognizing any sound card.
I am able to get sound by executing gmixer. Anyone have any suggestions?
thanks
