up2date is a mere cheap knockoff of apt-get. If you thought up2date

Apt-get is totally more flexible than up2date.
I'm a recent convert from RedHat. In fact, I've just completed transitioning

If you have a wideband connection just install the base system and then do
a network install. That way you won't be downloading anything you don't
Oh good.. I tried to use kernels from Kernel.org on Red Hat, but like I
mentioned I believe they add THEIR patches and various upgrades to the
kernel which made it difficult to upgrade...
I am fairly familiar with apt-get, so that will be nice to use.

Hi,
I am running a debian woody system (some packages are from the unstable
dist too). uname -a returns:

I am quite new to debian (just a couple of weeks, got tired of redhat

Hi all,
Does anybody have a nice recipe for ssh to a machine behind a ipchains firewall
with ipmasq? (It is floppyfw) I only have two machines behind the firewall and
only want to connect to one of them. Also I can use xvidtune to fix my
"rolling" problem (modline stuff) now how do I get X to us

No the default install does not support SB AWE32. You need to
patch the kernel and recompile. If your SB AWE32 is a pnp card,
you will need to configure it
Does the default install support an SB AWE32 for sound without
recompiling the kernel? And if so, what do I need to do to get it
working? I've not had any luck getting it to make any noise. :P

Hi! I just wanted to ask a couple of questions:
1. I just installed a compatible soundcard and I want to know how to make
debian recognize it.
2. I just recently installed a new browser netscape 407 but when I try to
launch it nothing happens. I even tried installing mosaic too but mosaic

your desk top. I have used it before but I can not remember the name. I am
trying to
convince a potential convert to switch from windoze, but I need some jpeg pics
