I upgraded XFree86 yesterday to 4.0.1 and had several problems in
WindowMaker with the color mapping, ie can't find "black", "white" etc and
I'd like to go back to 3.3.6 for awhile until things settle down. I
downgraded xserver-common, removed the new xserver for 4.0.1, and
reinstalled the 3.3
After reading the man page on make-kpkg, I configured and recompiled a new
kernel (2.2.17) using make-kpkg -revision Custom.5 kernel_image. This
produced the expected debian kernel package that installed correctly.
However, everytime I do an apt-get upgrade (woody) I end up getting the
kernel-image

I noticed the trailing "." as well. Is the sending system you refer to the
remote system at the where the mail is being stored (ISP) or the mail agent I'm
using (Netscape)? I'll look into rewrite options in the exim configuration file
as well.

You probably need to add "append=x,x,x,x" to your /etc/lilo.conf file to force
detection at boot. I believe it's explained in the lilo man pages.

You need to force detection at boot with "append=x,x,x,x," added in your
/etc/lilo.conf file. Documentation should be in the man lilo file. I'm not at my
seat at home right now so I can't be more specific. I have the same card and it

compiled into the kernel, but it was compiled in and not a module. I tried
compiling it as a module, which generated the serial.o file you mentioned below
in /lib/modules/2.2.13/misc, and the message/problem went away
I think I have support compiled in; using make xconfig, under Character Devices,
I selected support for console on virtual terminal, and didn't select support
for console on serial port. la -la shows /dev/console. I did modprobe -c and it
showed "alias char-major-5 serial".
I do get console mess
Mr. Potato keeps sending me a console message telling me it can't find module
char-major-5, but I don't have any modules compiled with my kernel, and I can't
find any docs telling me anything about this. Can anybody clue me in about what
this is and how to correct this?

Try running "locate lilo.conf" and that should find it. Actually, it should be
exactly at /etc/lilo.conf, so if you do "vi /etc/lilo.conf" as root you should
find it. The file is created during your installation, if you said you wanted to
install the linux loader. You can look up the man
I never heard anything back about the scsi id confusion, but my guess is that
setting the scanner id to 0 is actually scsi id #1, so when my scanner was set
to "2" it was actually scsi id 3. My best guess anyways.
