Ok, heres the story. I have installed a standard Debian 2.2r2 install, all
stable. It problem is that when I run mail, I cannot delete messages.

For you mixer problem, try aumix. It works on console and in x.

You gotta do what you gotta do. I installed the Sun JDK via rpm -> alien.
Then, I linked /usr/local/bin/java to /usr/java/jdk1.3/bin/java and the
javac's. It has worked relatively well except for the fact that the Sun JDK
resided in /usr/java/*.

I had problems with the alsa in 2.2.18pre21 also.
I just upgraded to 2.4.0 kernel and a newer alsa.
In ustable, do:
apt-get install kernel-source-2.4.0 (or 1 if you like) alsa-source
look in /usr/doc/alsa/README.debian.gz for install instructions

/usr/doc/alsa-source/*

Try checking your PAM config. Did you change config files while upgrading?
If so there is a good chance that md5 passwords were enabled but now are not.

Mkfontdir seg faults and causes problems with install xfont family of
packages.
Also, is X4.0.2 Compatible with sparcstation 2?
