You need to make sure your DRI is configured correctly in X4.0. My /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 contains: <snip> Section "Module" <snip> Load "glx" Load "dri" EndSection <snip> Section "DRI" Mode 0666 <--- this the the accessiblilty of the DRI; this is for all users EndSection You also have to make sure you have a DRI kernel module compiled for your card. It will be more interesting for you because you have a nVidia card. Read /usr/doc/xserver-xfree86/README.DRI.gz and /usr/doc/xserver-xfree86/README.DRIcomp.gz.
