Disabling the "VIA" controller does not change the letter assignment to the
promise controller. It remains "hde, hdf, hdg,hdh".
Therefore there is no way to
a.) Install using udma66 diskettes
b.) Install a new kernel with ATA-100 patches
c.) Disable the udma66 controller
d.) B
This works if I do not use an ATAPI CDROM: from the manual
page 79 ( ver 1.02)

I just read my motherboard manual and found the section to disable the
controller.
I had thought of this also but not lokked hard enough.(Not hard enough I
guess)
