This works if I do not use an ATAPI CDROM: from the manual page 79 ( ver 1.02)
" Make sure the ATAPI CD-ROM you want to use in the boot sequence is connected to eigther the PRIMARY or SECONDARY IDE connectors, not to the ATA100 connectors. Currently the Promise Ultra DMA /100 chip does not support this feature."
